On Holocaust Remembrance Day: Czech Republic’s minister of Foreign Affairs visits and prays at the Western Wall
Czech foreign minister during his visit to the Western Wall:
“Thanks to the Jewish people for our civilization. We are who we are also thanks to you!”
As part of his official visit to Israel – a visit of support and solidarity – and during Holocaust Remembrance Day, earlier today (Tue), the minister of foreign affairs of the Czech Republic, Mr Petr Macinka, arrived together with his host, foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar, for a visit and prayer at the Western Wall.
The delegation was received by the rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, who explained the significance of the Western Wall for the Jewish people as a place of prayer, hope, and longing throughout the generations. He also thanked him for his unequivocal support for the State of Israel in general, and especially during this complex period.
During the visit, the foreign minister toured the new “Gateway to Heaven” exhibit, recently opened to the public, wrote a personal note, and placed it between the stones of the Wall.
At the conclusion of his visit, the Czech foreign minister said:
“I thank you for the invitation and for the warm welcome. This place is extraordinary, and it is impressive to see what has been revealed here. For me, this visit carries even deeper meaning given that it is taking place on this special day – Holocaust Remembrance Day. I call on you to continue presenting this unique site to the entire world, so that everyone recognizes its importance. When the world sees and understands the facts, it will be able to form a firm position alongside Israel in the face of any attempt to undermine your thousands-of-years-old history. Thank you very much.”
