The Chain of Generations

Eight works of art and one sound-and-light show

Attention!

The Chain of Generations

This is the story of the Jewish chain of generations intertwined with the story of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel for over 3,000 years. Eight subterranean halls in the Chain of Generations Center, from different periods of time, contain unique works of art that will allow you to experience Jewish history in a whole new light. The works are composed of over 95 tons of glass sheets etched with names from links in the Jewish chain from the past thousands of years. In one of the rooms, under the clear floor, you will see a rich world of discoveries dating back to the First Temple period.
The tour includes state-of-the-art technology, personal headphones, and entrance into the Hall of Light which uses innovative sound-and-light interplay to tell the story of the liberation of the Western Wall by IDF paratroopers. It is a moving and exciting experience.

The Chain of Generations

The Chain of Generations Center tells the exciting narrative of the Jewish people throughout the generations and their eternal connection to Jerusalem. The Chain of Generations Center showcases a magnificent display of abstract art, using massive glass pillars to depict the chain of generations of the Jewish people. The display was designed by Eliav Nachlieli and the glass pillars were created by artist Jeremy Langford.

The Chain of Generations Center is located adjacent to the Western Wall Plaza and is built in underground niches between ancient structures and findings from the Roman period. The display includes 90 tons of glass, sliced and placed level on top of level. The names of significant people throughout Jewish history, from Adam, through Abraham and Sarah, until our return to Jerusalem in the last century, are engraved in the glass pillars. The exhibit integrates the ancient structures and archeological findings, the huge modern glass creations, and the special background lighting, music, sounds and holograms, creating a sense of actually walking the path of the Jewish people’s narrative. A powerful experience that stimulates the senses awaits all visitors to the Center.
