As part of his visit to Israel, Chancellor of Austria Karl Nehammer came with Austria’s defense minister Klaudia Tanner, Austrian member of Parliament Martin Engelberg, president of the Jewish community of Austria Oskar Deutsch, Israel’s ambassador to Austria Mordechai Rodgold and the Austrian delegation to the Western Wall.
The Chancellor was greeted by the director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mr. Mordechai (Suli) Eliav who presented fascinating findings discovered in the Western Wall Tunnels and told him of the profound connection between the Jewish nation and Jerusalem.
The Chancellor prayed a personal prayer by the ancient stones of the Wall and noted that being here at the foot of the Western Wall is a privilege. The ability to sense spirituality, to believe, to be joyous and to pray is of very important significance. It is impressive and moving to see Jerusalem’s deep history.
