H. E. Ambassador Zhan Yongxin, ambassador to Israel of the Peoples Republic of China, visited the Western Wall on Thursday and was received by the Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz.
In his meeting with the Rabbi, the Ambassador stated that he was born in Shanghai, the site of the Mir Yeshiva immediately after the Holocaust, and that he is happy that that same yeshiva is a global center of Torah still today .
The friendship between the Chinese nation and Israel is strong, said the Ambassador, and remarked that Chinese tourists, among them many investors, have been coming to Israel the past few years, visiting the Western Wall as well.
I hope that the President of the Peoples Republic of China comes here in 2017 and that his visit will strengthen the ties between Israel and China, added the Ambassador.
After praying near the stones of the Wall, the Ambassador visited the Western Wall Tunnels and displayed great interest in the Jewish history seen of the remnants of the Holy Temple.
In the name of the Chinese nation, I wish the Jewish nation Shana Tova and express the hope that we merit world peace, said the Ambassador to the Rabbi of the Western Wall as their meeting concluded.
