As part of his diplomatic visit to Israel, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songulashvili, arrived this morning (Monday) together with his Israeli counterpart, Minister of Agriculture Mr. Avi Dichter, for a visit and prayer at the Western Wall.
During the visit, the minister received an explanation from the director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mr. Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, about the importance of this holy site for the Jewish people as a source of prayer, hope, and longing throughout the generations. He thanked him for his visit to Israel and to the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
The ministers toured the various sites in the Western Wall Tunnels and the new Gateway to Heaven exhibition which recently opened to the public at the Western Wall. The exhibition connects visitors to the history of Jerusalem and the Jewish people through the generations as they come to the Wall to reflect upon the ancient stones.
At the end of the visit, the minister wrote a personal note, which he placed between the stones of the Western Wall, and signed the guestbook: “I would like to wish the State of Israel and its residents peace and prosperity. There has been a wonderful friendship between Georgia and Israel for many years. It is an honor for me to take part in and strengthen this friendship.”
