Hours before the opening of the new embassy of Papua New Guinea in Israel, Prime Minister James Marape, along with a delegation of ministers from Papua New Guinea, arrived for a visit and prayer at the Western Wall.
He was received by the rabbi of the Western Wall and the Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, who read Psalm 121 with him and explained to him the significance of the holy site for the Jewish people and its yearnings for Jerusalem throughout generations.
At the end of the visit, he placed a note between the stones of the Western Wall and signed the Western Wall’s guestbook:
“I have read the prayer of King David, the God of Abraham has become the friend of my Papua New Guinea, as it was in the past, now, and in the future. May God bless Israel and Papua New Guinea.”
