The Western Wall provides us with many beautiful and emotional moments. But it seems we have never had one quite like when Ro’i Malka, who is deaf, came to the Western Wall to celebrate his bar mitzvah with his family and his “deaf community” who came with him to celebrate this exciting occasion.
In a particularly moving moment, the community prayed alongside Ro’i at the Western Wall as he put on his tefillin and went up to the Torah for the first time in his life. Afterwards, they toured the routes of the Western Wall Tunnels made accessible for those with hearing impairments. They were all moved, excited, and empowered by the tour.
