The President of Israel and Israel’s Chief Rabbis – past and present – prayed for the welfare of the security forces and the Jewish nation in Israel and around the world.
About 50,000 people participated in the event this evening (Wednesday), the 2nd day of Chol Hamoed Sukkot, at the Western Wall Plaza. The exciting and uplifting Torah scroll dedication and Simchat Beit Hashoeva, _”zecher leHakhel”, takes place once every seven years following the shemitta year.
The event took place in the presence of the President of Israel, Yitzchak Herzog; Israel’s Chief Rabbi, David Lau; Israel’s former chief rabbis; the Rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz; Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu; Mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Leon; US Ambassador to Israel, Thomas Nides; rabbis, public figures, and the public.
This event occurs once every seven years in commemoration of the event that took place at the Temple when, following the shemitta year, the nation – men, women, and children – would gather at the Temple to hear words of Torah. In commemoration of that event, three Torah scrolls were dedicated at the Western Wall this evening.
