This week, the central menorah was placed on the Western Wall Plaza, adjacent to the site of the miracle, in preparation for the traditional candle lighting events that will take place every Hanukkah evening in the presence of rabbis and public figures.
Hanukkah 1st candle event
The first event will take place on Sunday, the first night of Hanukkah (24 Kislev; November 28) at 4:30pm in the presence of Israel’s Chief Rabbis, the Rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, the Defense Minister, the Minister for Immigration and Absorption, the Minister for Scientific Innovation and Technology, and the public.
The Hanukkah candle-lighting event will be dedicated to the memory of Eliyahu Kay z”l,
a guide at the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, who was heinously murdered this week by a terrorist.
The Western Wall Heritage Foundation: “Hanukkah is a wonderful time for the public to take part in the special and unifying events that take place at the Western Wall Plaza, even during these challenging and painful times, and to be a part of the festive atmosphere that sheds light everywhere. Now is the time to strengthen our connection with our heritage and to take tours of the Old City to the light of menorahs and fascinating tours of the Western Wall Tunnels sites.”
The Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony will take place every evening at 4:30pm
*(other than Friday, the 29th of Kislev, when it will be at 3:40pm and on Saturday night, 30 Kislev, when it will be at 7pm).
