On Tuesday, October 24, 2017 (4 Cheshvan 5778), approximately 70 wives of diplomats from around the world came to the Western Wall as guests of the Israel Antiquities Authority for a tour of archeological excavations in Jerusalem. They completed their visit with a tour of the excavations at Wilsons Arch in the Western Wall Tunnels. Dr. Yuval Baruch, chief archeologist of the Jerusalem region at the IAA, and representatives of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, leading the excavations, were also on the tour.
Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, greeted the women representing 70 different countries and blessed them that all their prayers should be answered. Your visit today is a visit to the glorious past of the Jewish nation. Here, we do not uncover stones. We uncover roots and through them we connect to the roots of the Jewish nation and its values. I invite you and the representatives of your country to a moving visit to the Western Wall, he said.
