As part of his state visit to Israel in honor of the dedication and official opening of the Honduran embassy in Jerusalem, President Juan Orlando Hernandez Alvarado came for a visit this morning (Thursday) to the Western Wall and for a tour of the Western Wall Tunnels.
The president was greeted by the director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, who guided him through the Tunnels and showed him fascinating findings from the Second Temple period that were revealed in excavations of the Tunnels this past year.
The president placed a note between the stones of the Wall and said, “I came to the Western Wall thirty years ago, and that trip changed my life. I have been carrying Jerusalem in my heart since then and am happy to be here. I thank the State of Israel for knowing how to preserve this sacred land. I hope that the relationship between our country and Israel continues for a long time.”
