After 57 Years of Service: The Egged Company Bids an Emotional Farewell to Decades of Transporting Millions of Worshippers and Visitors to the Western Wall

With the conclusion of Egged’s service in transporting people to and from the Western Wall for decades, national and Jerusalem district managers of Egged attended a summary meeting in the office of the rabbi of the Western Wall.

During the meeting, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, and Mr. Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, thanked them for the service provided to thousands of worshippers and visitors who came daily to the holy site. They emphasized the immense importance of the work done by Egged’s drivers and managers in making the Western Wall accessible to everyone who wished to visit and pray there.

The managers of Egged expressed their pride and joy in being able to contribute to bringing so many people to this sacred place. They also shared the feelings of the regular drivers who had been making the daily trips to the Wall for decades, considering it a mission and an honor to be the link connecting passengers to the holy site. Since 1967, the day after the liberation of Jerusalem and the Wall, Egged has been faithfully and professionally transporting passengers to the Western Wall daily on various routes, from the early morning prayer until late at night. This service was provided year-round, particularly during peak times such as Chol Hamoed, Selichot events, Priestly Blessings, special prayer days, Rosh Chodesh evenings, and prayer gatherings.
