With Excitement and a Sense of Pride: The Emotional ‘Birkat HaGomel’ was recited at the Western Wall by Southern District Police Officers Who Survived October 7th

Since October 7th, in the shadow of the Iron Swords war, dozens of appreciation and gratitude events, as well as memorials, eulogies, prayers, and expressions of hope, have been taking place at the Western Wall. One of these events occurred yesterday at the Western Wall Plaza when dozens of police officers from the Southern District of the Israel Police arrived for a special day of appreciation initiated by the Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Defense in collaboration with the Western Wall Heritage Foundation.

The highlight of the visit was when the brave and heroic officers, who risked their lives with courage and valor on the morning of Simchat Torah, stood at the Western Wall Plaza. With tearful eyes and aching hearts on one hand, yet with a sense of pride and gratitude on the other, they emotionally recited the ‘Birkat HaGomel,’ a blessing recited by those who have survived a life-threatening situation.

After the blessing, the rabbi of the Southern District of the Israel Police, Chief Inspector Rabbi Reuven Kamiel, prayed for the safety of IDF soldiers, security forces, and Israel Police officers.

It was moving to see the heroes standing together, hugging at the foot of the Western Wall, and singing Hatikvah with hearts full of pride, joining generations of fighters and dreamers who risked their lives for the defense of the nation and the land.

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation, the Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Defense, and the entire nation of Israel salute them, honor them, and thank them for their sacrifice and bravery, praying for the complete and speedy recovery of the wounded.

At the end of the emotional ceremony, guides from the Western Wall Heritage Foundation conducted fascinating tours of the Western Wall Tunnels, and of the new Gateway to Heaven exhibit at the Western Wall, recently opened to the public, where visitors are exposed to the secrets of the Western Wall and gain insight into the history of the Jewish people.
