Following requests from soldiers injured in the “Iron Sword” conflict, the Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Defense, together with the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, organized a tour day at the Western Wall for dozens of IDF veterans, culminating in an emotional recitation of the “Birkat Hagomel” by the soldiers.
The visit of the soldiers from rehabilitation departments who were injured in battles in the Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria, and the northern border, began with a meeting and conversation along with a guided tour of the Western Wall Tunnels. At the conclusion, the wounded, accompanied by their loved ones, emotionally recited the traditional “Birkat Hagomel” in the prayer plaza, which is recited by those who have survived life-threatening situations. Alongside Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, and Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation.
This is the first in a series of such encounters, as due to high demand from additional groups of IDF combat veterans, additional sessions will be opened, and invitations will be sent to the injured accompanied by the Rehabilitation Department.
