“Dvir Kodsho Hevi’ani” (To the holy abode of His Word He brought me) – An Amazing Story from This Morning
Barak Epstein recounts: Today, I went up to the Western Wall with my family, both to celebrate Hanukkah and to take the opportunity to express gratitude for completing two months of reserve duty, thank God.
A Jewish man stood with his children next to one of the bimas at the Western Wall gathering a minyan (quorum) for the Mincha (Afternoon) prayer. We joined.
At the end of the prayer, the chazan addressed the congregation and asked them to remain for the recitation of a Psalm for the elevation of the soul of… his son who fell on Simchat Torah (October 7th). 😢
I was expecting “Shir LaMa’alot” or something similar, but that Jew—who had since also sat shiva for his mother—announced that we are about to recite a Psalm of gratitude because he wants to thank God for the 21 years, 4 months, and a few more days (he can’t remember exactly) that he was blessed with his son.
He even added the commentary of the Netziv, stating that gratitude needs to be done publicly.
Of course, the entire congregation joined him in reciting the Psalm, while we stood amazed and moved by the father’s spiritual strength, which undoubtedly also resonated in his son, Devir Lisha Hy”d, a fighter in Battalion 51 who fell in battle at the Erez Crossing.
