The Western Wall Heritage Foundation: “We call on the public to come early in the month of Elul to say Selichot, and not only during the last days of Selichot and Aseret Yemei Teshuva between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, in order to spread out the crowds.”
With the approach of the month of Elul, the month of compassion and Selichot, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation is preparing to host the Jewish nation in traditional Selichot events and the Tishrei holidays, anticipating the arrival of thousands of worshippers and visitors every night at prayer gatherings.

In light of the strong desire of the general public in Israel to participate in the central Selichot events, it has been decided this year to add Selichot gatherings and hold 17 central Selichot assemblies, accompanied by a cantor, amplification, and large screens at the edges of the Western Wall. This is to disperse the crowds and allow the public to ascend to Jerusalem and join in the Selichot events throughout the High Holiday season.
The Selichot events will be live streamed on the Western Wall Heritage Foundation’s website for those who cannot physically attend and wish to participate in the moving ceremonies.

The first Selichot event at the Western Wall Plaza will take place on Motza’ei Shabbat, 2nd of Elul, 5783; August 19, 2023, starting at 00:15 (midnight).

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation: “The traditional Selichot events at the Western Wall Plaza unite the people of Israel in all their diversity and enhance unity during this emotional month of the year. Tens of thousands of worshippers and visitors gather at these moving events, joining together in the pouring out of the soul and accepting the yoke of heaven during the Days of Repentance, proclaiming loudly: ‘Master of Selichot, we have sinned before You – have mercy upon us.’ We call on the public to come early in the month of Elul to say Selichot, and not only during the last days of Selichot and Aseret Yemei Teshuva between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, in order to spread out the crowds for the safety and welfare of all those who visit the Western Wall.”

In addition, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation is preparing for the special Selichot tours that take place every year following the traditional liturgical poems and Selichot prayers in the Old City and the Western Wall Tunnels sites.
