For the fifth time – Holocaust survivors from Rishon LeZion celebrated their belated Bar and Bat Mitzvah at the Western Wall

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Rishon LeZion, celebrated a belated Bar and Bat Mitzvah for Holocaust survivors at the Western Wall.

This is the fifth year that we have had the privilege of hosting Holocaust survivors from Rishon LeZion at the Western Wall, as they celebrate a belated Bar and Bat Mitzvah at the Western Wall, after not having the opportunity to celebrate it during their childhood.

In an emotional ceremony, the survivors celebrated their Bar Mitzvah by donning tefillin and ascending to the Torah, while the women celebrated their Bat Mitzvah with blessings and a variety of activities. They then recited a prayer for the success of the security forces and the IDF.

Throughout the year, we host Holocaust survivors at the Western Wall and in the Tunnels, in collaboration with the Claims Conference. We listen to their stories, embrace and support them, and celebrate together with them the Bar and Bat Mitzvah they were denied in their youth.

These encounters are a great privilege for us. We will continue to be there with them and for them, passing on their stories from generation to generation.
