There is no one who is not familiar with the emotional spectacle of the “Ambulance of Wishes” at the Western Wall, which aims to fulfill the heartfelt wishes of seriously-ill and terminal patients who wish to visit and pray at the Western Wall for their recovery.
Such an event recently occurred when Efi Talmor, a Jew who had lived in the United States for many years and in the past two years had fallen ill with cancer to the point of deterioration in his condition, was given only a few days to live by his doctors. He decided that he did not want to depart from the world before coming to Israel to visit his mother who resides here.
In a complex operation, he arrived in the country on a medical flight, and immediately upon landing, he requested to go and pray at the Western Wall before entering hospice care at Tel Hashomer.
Not a dry eye was left in the presence of such a moving spectacle, to see a Jew whose last wish was to come and pray at the Western Wall. Unfortunately, he passed away this week, but the message he left us will be engraved in our hearts forever.
