About 50,000 people participated in this morning’s Birkat Kohanim

bout 50,000 people participated in this morning's Birkat Kohanim (Priestly Blessing) at the Western Wall Plaza, at Shacharit and Mussaf.

TONIGHT The dedication of three Torah scrolls – Zecher LeHakhel at 6:00pm

This morning’s event took place in the presence of the Chief Rabbis of Israel the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef; and Rabbi David Lau; the Rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz; and Jerusalem Mayor Mr. Moshe Leon.

Further more, TONIGHT: The dedication of Torah scrolls – Zecher LeHakhel and Simchat Beit Hashoeva – will take place, G-d willing, from 6:00pm to 8:15pm.

Rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz: “During Hakhel, that occurred once every seven years at the Temple following the shemitta year, the nation would ascend to Jerusalem to unite at their holy site and hear the words of the Torah. We, too, unite here in memory of that unity and holiness at the Temple and pray for peace among us, peace in Israel, and peace in the world. We pray to be connected to each other and to belong to one another in unity, solidarity, holiness, and love. We have one tradition. We have one heritage. And we must be one united nation.”

This ceremony takes place every seven years in commemoration of an event that took place in the days of the Temple when men, women, and children would gather at the end of the shmitta year. In commemoration of that awe-inspiring event, three Torah scrolls will be dedicated at the Western Wall Plaza, in the presence of the President of Israel, the Chief Rabbis past and present, the Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, Rabbis and Gedolei HaTorah.

The event will be accompanied by Cantor Yisrael Adler, Paytan and Cantor Moshe Chavusha, Singer Nemuel Harosh, and the Neranena Choir.
