The Western Wall Heritage Foundation conducts a comprehensive manual inspection and maintenance of the Western Wall stones twice a year – prior to Passover and to Rosh Hashana. This protects the thousands of visitors who come to the sacred site all year long, in particular during the holidays. The thorough inspection today checked the Western Wall stones’ stability.
The inspection team, led by engineers, went stone by stone with the aid of a crane and checked the stones’ stability and level of upkeep as part of the ongoing tracking that is updated after every inspection.
The inspection was halachically supervised by the rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, in collaboration with the Israel Antiquities Authority, and the Western Wall Heritage Foundation engineers, in accordance with halachic restrictions that had been determined.
The Western Wall Heritage Foundation is preparing to host the many people who come every year for the central selichot (penitential prayers) services and the holidays of the month of Tishrei. The first selichot event will take place at the Western Wall Plaza on Thursday, 12 Elul, September 8, 2022, starting at 12:15am.
