Preparation for Passover at Jerusalem: Inspection of the Western Walll Stones

In preparation for Passover and the arrival of thousands of worshippers to the Kotel Plaza, a thorough inspection was done of the Kotel stones this morning (Tuesday).

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation conducts a thorough and comprehensive manual inspection of the western wall stones twice a year: before Passover and before Rosh Hashana. They also do comprehensive maintenance of the stones in order to safeguard the thousands of worshippers who come to the sacred site all year long and especially on holidays. The extensive inspection that took place today examined the stability of the Kotel stones and included also the area of the covered Wilson’s Arch.

The inspection team, led by engineers, went stone by stone, using a crane, and examined the stability and level of maintenance as part of the ongoing and methodical tracking that is updated from one examination to the next.

This is done under the halachic supervision of the rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, and in collaboration with the Israel Antiquities Authority and engineers of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, in accordance with determined halachic restrictions.
