An experiential menorah tour in the new subterranean excavation sites under the Western Wall Plaza and on the level of the ritual baths discovered under the Western Wall Tunnels, with musical interlude..
We will begin our tour with a festive Chanukah candle-lighting ceremony at the Western Wall Plaza – a moving and extraordinary experience. From here, we will go back 2,000 years in time and go underground to a network of rooms discovered under the Western Wall Tunnels route that we all know. We will visit the excavation sites uncovered these past few years and find impressive ritual baths, a magnificent water system, and ancient structures. Some of the sites have not yet been opened to regular tours of the public. During the tour we will participate in a special musical segment of holiday songs in an ancient hall in the Tunnels and each participant will get a personal songbook.
The Core Excavations
The Great Bridge
This bridge, built of arches, connected between the Upper City and Temple Mount. A water aqueduct ran along it that brought water from Solomon’s Pools to the Temple.
Subterranean Spaces
Under the classic Western Wall Tunnels, glorious rooms from the days of the Temple were revealed with unique and fascinating remnants.
The Western Wall Plaza
We will learn more about the Chanukah miracle which occurred right near the Western Wall, against the backdrop of the dancing flames of the Kotel menorah.
