More than a hundred thousand people at the Western Wall during an uplifting holiday of Shavuo

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

the Western Wall, the holiday of Shavuot and the adjacent Sabbath were concluded with an elevated feeling as over a hundred thousand people visited the Western Wall Plaza during the holiday of Shavuot and the following Shabbat.

The peak time was towards the morning “netz” prayer when over 14,000 people gathered by the remnant of the Temple, filling the entire Western Wall Plaza with prayer and song.

The tradition of visiting the Wall during the holiday of Shavuot has been in place for 56 years – since the liberation of the Western Wall, allowing the Jewish people for the first time in years to cling to its stones after being prevented from doing so. Additionally, as every year in the synagogues surrounding the Western Wall, many worshippers came to study throughout the night and recite the “Tikkun Leil Shavuot” and Psalms.

Moreover, hundreds of students from various universities throughout the country arrived at the Western Wall as part of a special study project on the night of the holiday, organized by The Western Wall Heritage Foundation.

On the roads leading to the Western Wall, tents were set up with the assistance of the Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs and donors who provided refreshments to the people streaming to the Western Wall.

Many people came to the Tomb of King David during the holiday of Shavuot which marks the anniversary of his passing.

Also tonight, Saturday night of Isru Chag at the conclusion of the holiday, many people are expected to come to the Western Wall Plaza, led by rabbis, Admorim, and heads of yeshivas, who will be dancing in honor of the Torah.

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation expresses gratitude to the Israel Police for safeguarding and securing the site and ensuring the safety of the visitors.
