I.D.F. disabled veterans celebrate a belated Bar Mitzvah at the Western Wall
“The Western Wall is perhaps the only place where all disputes remain on the side, and only the connection with the people remains,” said Shmulik Yona (73) from Tiberias, who served in Brigade 188 during the Yom Kippur War and was injured after the war.
In an emotional and special ceremony held this morning at the Western Wall Plaza, a belated Bar Mitzvah was celebrated for I.D.F. disabled veterans who did not celebrate their Bar Mitzvah before the reunification of Jerusalem.
They were greeted by the Rabbi of the Western Wall and the Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Chairman of the I.D.F. Disabled Veterans Organization Attorney Idan Klaiman, Deputy Director-General and Head of Rehabilitation Division at the Ministry of Defense Limor Luria, and Avigdor Kahalani.
Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, blessed:
“We appreciate your contribution to the defense of the country and the reconnection at this holy place. Every year, we have the privilege of celebrating together with thousands of families the Bar Mitzvah of their sons and connecting to Jewish heritage and the chain of generations.”
After the Torah reading and prayer, they placed notes between the stones of the Western Wall and enjoyed accessible tours in the Western Wall Tunnels.
