First Night of Chanukah Candle Lighting Ceremony at the Western Wall Plaza

Approximately 1,000 people participated in a Chanukah candle-lighting ceremony on the first night of Chanukah at the Western Wall, the remnant of our Temple. The event took place in the presence of Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, and the director of the Prime Ministers office, Mr. Eli Gruner.

Both the Rabbi and Mr. Gruner during the ceremony referred to the UN resolution stating that the Western Wall does not belong to the Jewish nation.

Rabbi Rabinowitz said: I do not know of any other occupying force in history whose land is so full of his ancestors remnants. The Temple Mount and the Western Wall have been sacred to the Jewish people for generations and this does need anyones approval. It is absurd to deny the evidence of countless archeological discoveries or of generations of faith.

“We say to the world  Without truth, peace cannot exist. As the Prophet Zachariya said, ‘You should love truth and peace’. Falsehoods claiming that the Jewish nation has no hold or connection to the Western Wall and to Jerusalem not only do not advance peace, but make it impossible to achieve.

The Western Wall Rabbi noted that he wholeheartedly believes that the Temple Mount and the Western Wall can be and must be sources of inspiration, love, and peace among religions and nations. I call to the United Nations to support Jews, Muslims, and Christians who are residents of Jerusalem, who live one alongside the other, respecting each others heritage, and wishing to live with true tolerance in the City of God. I call to you to express your rejection of this resolution which harms the delicate fabric of common life in the holy city and renounces historical facts and the western wall facts .”
