Jerusalem Day 2021 – Events at the Western Wall Plaza

Celebrations in honor of 54 years since the liberation of Jerusalem will begin, as usual, with a festive prayer service at the Western Wall Plaza, combined with prayers in memory of those killed and for the recovery of those wounded at the tragedy in Meron, as well as prayers of thanksgiving for the miracle of Israel’s recovery from the coronavirus.

Prayers on Jerusalem Day eve:

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Jerusalem Municipality, the Office for Jerusalem and Heritage, and the Jerusalem Development Authority will hold a festive prayer service in honor of 54 years since Jerusalem’s liberation on Sunday, 27 Iyar, 5781 (May 9, 2021) at 7:30pm.  The event will be held in the presence of the chief rabbis of Israel, the Rishon Lezion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef and Rabbi David Lau; rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz; Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon; and minister for Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage, Rabbi Rafi Peretz. The prayer service will be accompanied by musicians: Yishai Lapidot, Yitzchak Meir, Chaim Yisrael and the Mafte’ach Sol choir.

We will bow our heads and pray for the memories of those killed in the Meron tragedy and for the recovery of the wounded, as well as for the welfare of the world and those ill with the coronavirus.

A mass “hagomel” blessing will take place for the first time during the Jerusalem Day eve prayers to offer gratitude for the situation in Israel following a year of the pandemic.

People who have recovered are invited to come to the Western Wall Plaza to participate in person, or join remotely from anywhere in Israel or abroad.  Names of wounded or ill who cannot come in person can be sent for prayer through the Western Wall website.

The live broadcast will be on the platforms of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, the Jerusalem Municipality, and itraveljerusalem.

Satellite connection information will be publicized closer to the broadcast date.
